A huge tract of land that once belonged to the Roman Empire during the time  of Julius Caesar and then controlled  by the then mighty  German Empire  at the end of the  Franco-Prussian War, Alsace, France has come a long way from being a disputed district that has spawned major  fights  between feuding Germanic tribes and Frank ethnic groups, between Germany and Allied France.
